the 29th of Elul
is [red]Erev Rosh Hashana 5766[/red].
Some have the custom to fast until noon.
We begin saying the many [blue]Selichos of Erev Rosh HaShanah[/blue] that include [blue]'Zechor Brisi' [/blue]before the pre-dawn sky begins to brighten; [blue]Tachanum[/blue] is said during Selichos, but not during Shacharis or Mincha; we say [blue]'Lamnatzaiach'[/blue]. We [blue]do not blow the Shofar [/blue]at all during the day so as to make a distinction between the voluntary shofar blowing of Elul and the obligatory shofar blowing of Rosh HaShanah; we do [blue]Hataras Nedorim[/blue].
One takes a [purple]haircut[/purple], and [purple]bathes[/purple] in honor of the approaching Yom Tov. [purple]Immersion in a Mikvah[/purple], preferably after midday, is appropriate so that we may enter the Yom HaDin, Day of Judgement, in a state of holiness and purity.
We make all preparations for Yom Tov. We hasten to light candles (20 minutes before sunset). We make the Brachos [green]'LeHadlik Ner Shel Yom Tov'[/green] and [green]'SheHecheyanu'[/green] over the candles.
[i][b]May it be the will of Hashem that our prayers be accepted in mercy and grace, and may we all be written for good long lives full of tranquility and peace.[/b][/i]
