1) A countertop or a cutting board thatis
designated for cutting parve items may be used to cut parve food that
will be used at a meat or dairy meal, as long as no meat or dairy foodis placed there and as long as the knife used is parve.
When sharp
foods (e.g. garlic, onions, lemons, salty fish etc.) are cut on a parve
countertop or cutting board, care should be taken to only use a parve
knife, as using a non parve knife can negatively affect the food being
cut and/or the surface that it's being cut on.
2)
A countertop or cutting board that is designated for meat or dairy may
not be used to cut fruits and vegetables or other parve foods that may
be used at a meal with the opposite food class.

PLEASE PARTICIPATE IN OUR MATANOS L'EVYONIM CAMPAIGN
Dear Halacha For Today Reader,
Purim is around the corner.
The more Tzedakah you give to poor people on Purim, the more praiseworthy you are!
It is better to give additional Matanos L'Evyonim than to give extra Mishloach Manos or to increase the Seudas Purim, because ..."There
is no greater or loftier Simcha than to gladden the hearts of the poor,
widows, orphans and converts. One who gladdens the hearts of these
downtrodden people is likened to the Shechina (!)" (Words of the Rambam Hilchos Megilah Perek 2 Halacha 17, quoted in Mishna Berura Siman 694:3)
As I do twice yearly (Before Purim and before Rosh Hashana) I
raise funds for various Talmidei Chachamim who need financial
assistance. There is no greater Mitzvah than supporting Talmidei
Chachamim in need. These funds will be distributed on Purim day B'Ezras
Hashem.
I
am posting a letter of support from HaRav Dovid Schustal Shlita, Rosh
Yeshiva of Bais Medrash Govoha of Lakewood in regard to one of the
people for whom I am raising these funds, who has unfortunately become
ill and finds himself in an extremely difficult financual situation.
Please
take part in this great Mitzvah and in the merit of doing so may Hashem
shine His abundant blessings down upon you and your families.
Donations
can be made via the link below. Please specify that it's for the
Matanos L'Evyonim campaign. For other options, email me at halachafortoday@yahoo.com

QUESTION & ANSWER CORNER
Reader
Submitted Questions of interest on topics related to Halachos we
covered, as well as other interesting topic and Answers. Taken from the
Q & A pages on the Halacha For Today website.
Although
the answers I give to questions are taken directly from the Sifrei
HaPoskim, and aren't my own, they are still for study purposes
only, NOT for Psak Halacha.
[You
wrote that women may wear watches on shabbos out of the Eruv], I
thought women weren't allowed to wear jewelry on Shabbos outside the
Eruv (See Shulchan Aruch re: tach'shitei isha), so why would a watch be
any different?
Answer:
Although in the times of the Mishna and the Talmud
indeed women were prohibited from wearing most Jewelry, as we worried
that they would remove it to show their friends and thus end up
carrying in a prohibited place, this is not the halacha today.
There
are many reasons discussed in the Rishonim and Poskim as to why the
prohibition was lifted (it is already hundreds of years that this
prohibition has been lifted).
Some
of the reasons given are that the prohibition was only in a proper
Reshus HaRabim (public domain) and not in a Karmelis (smaller public
domain) and most of our streets today are not real Reshus Harabim.
Another
reason given is that today's days women do not remove jewelry to show
their friends in middle of the street, so the Gezeira doesn't apply.
Another reason cited is that women today will be unable to abide by this prohibition.
Bottom line is, all Poskim agree that today's days women may wear most common jewelry on Shabbos even in areas that have no Eruv.
See Aruch Hashulchan Siman 303:21 and 22 for more on this topic.
Our holy sages, the Chazal tell us
תנא דבי אליהו כל השונה הלכות בכל יום מובטח לו שהוא בן עולם הבא, שנאמר הליכות עולם לו, אל תקרי הליכות אלא הלכות - one who studies [at least two] Halachos daily is assured a portion in Olam Haba - the world to come. (:מגילה כ"ח )
