Today's
Halachos are dedicated by a daily reader, R.S., L'Zecher Nishmas her
father Avraham ben R' Aharon HaLeivi, A"H, whose Yahrtzeit is today, 11
Iyar. May the learning in his memory be a zechus for his Neshama to
have an even greater Aliyah in Gan Eden.

1) The third area that the Talmud (Bava
Metzia 23b) teaches us that there lying is permitted is:
Ushpiza:
If one was a guest at someone's home, and is
asked by someone else how the accommodations were and if they were
treated ok, he may lie and say they weren't ok as to prevent the
questioner from being an "unwanted guest" at the host, and thus cause
him an unwanted monetary loss. (Rashi Bava Metzia 24a Dibur Hamaschil B'Ushpiza. However,
according some Poskim do not rule this way and do not accept this
interpretation of "Ushpiza" as this is prohibited due to Lashon Hara.See Chofetz Chaim
Klal 9:3 and Dibros Moshe from Rav Moshe Feinstein Bava Metzia ibid.)
The Rambam and others interpret "Ushpiza" as
follows: If one was a guest at someone's home and he is asked where he
stayed he may lie and say he stayed a different person's house in order
to prevent "unwanted guests" from taking advantage of thereal
host.
2) It is permissible to lie in order to
save another Jew from embarrassment, but if possible it should be done
in a way that doesn't seem like a lie is being said. (Sefer
Chasidim 642)

QUESTION & ANSWER CORNER

on topics related to Halachos we covered, as well as other interesting
topic and Answers. Taken from the Q & A pages on the
Halacha For Today website.
Although the answers I give to
questions are taken directly from the Sifrei HaPoskim, and aren't my
own, they are still for study purposes only, NOT for Psak Halacha.
I was
learning that a renter must put up mezuzas in his apartment, but without
a bracha. Why is that?
Answer:
According to many Poskim, a renter should not recite a
Bracha on the Mezuzah until after living in the home for 30 days (as
until then he isnt considered Kavua), but after 30 days everyone agrees
that the renter must recite the Bracha.
Some Poskim maintain that even renters recite the bracha
immediately.
Some differentiate between a long term rental and a short
term rental (such as a summer bungalow) (See Igros Moshe Yoreh Deah Vol.
1 Siman 179).
Our holy sages, the Chazal tell us
תנא דבי אליהו כל השונה הלכות בכל
יום מובטח לו שהוא בן עולם הבא, שנאמר הליכות עולם לו, אל תקרי הליכות
אלא הלכות -
one who studies [at least two] Halachos daily is assured a portion in
Olam Haba - the world to come. (Talmud
Niddah 73a)
