SPECIAL DOUBLE
PORTION L'KAVOD SHABBOS KODESH
Halachos for Erev Shabbos Kodesh
1) One may not sell meat that is un-kosher and portray it as
kosher, even if selling to a non Jew.
(See Talmud
Chulin 94b and Rashi and Tosefos there.)
This
is prohibited even if not saying it outright, and just having the buyer
assume it.
2)
One who is dishonest with a non Jew will end up being dishonest with a
fellow Jew (Tana D'Vei Eliyahu Rabba Perek 28)
Halachos
for Shabbos Kodesh
1) One may
not pretend that he will do something for the benefit of
another person when in fact he planned to do that thing anyway
for his/her own benefit.
2)
Some examples of this:
A
storeowner who was planning on opening new merchandise to display may
not tell a customer "I wasn't gong to open this, but I will do it for
you"
One
should not set a lunch meeting with a prospective client to have them
believe that they are interested in their business when they know from
the beginning that they will afterwards call to cancel, due to no real
interest in meeting.
Likewise,
a client should not say to the prospective business associate, "We
should meet for lunch" when he knows that the answer will be no, and is
only saying it to feign interest. (See Rashi to Chulin ibid.)
One
should not present an expensive gift to someone with the knowledge that
they will not accept, and thus is only presenting it so that person
should exhibit good will towards them for attempting to give the gift

Reader's Question:
When Lag B'Omer falls out on Sunday, as is the
case this year, can one take a haircut on Friday already?
Answer:
Yes, one may take a haircut and shave on Friday
(and B'dieved even on Thursday night if one won't have time on Friday),
L'Kavod Shabbos. However, if it wasn't done on Friday, it may not be
done on Motzaei Shabbos and must wait until Sunday.
